About the author ALAN GART is President of Alan Gart Inc., a financial consulting firm whose clients include Chemical Bank, Shearson Lehman, CIGNA, Insurance Institute of America, Manufacturers Hanover and Bell Atlantic Enterprises. He is also Professor of Business and Finance at Nova University. Previously, he was corporate chief economist at CIGNA/INA Corporation, senior vice president and economist for the Girard Bank, and vice president and economist for Manufacturers Hanover. His books include Insurance Company Finance and Investment (with David J. Nye); An Analysis of the New Financial Institutions; Banks, Thrifts and Insurance Companies: Survival in the 1980s; and The Insider's Guide to the Financial Services Revolution. He received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.
