This is a logical, systematic working guide to the examination and assessment of the neuromusculoskeletal system, combining a wide range of approaches used clinically around the world. It brings together as one process the examination and assessment of the structures involved: joints, nerve and muscle tissue. Each section follows the same logical, step by step sequence of illustrations and text. The book is designed for use by manual therapists requiring to identify and assess clinical problems in this area, whether student or clinician.

The book has many strengths: it is written in an organised, logical user-friendly format with excellent accompanying graphics, giving detailed and precise descriptions in clear language. At the end of each chapter is an extensive reference list should the reader wish to explore particular topics in more detail. Written by a highly experienced manipulative therapist, this book would be a valuable guide to students and clinicians of various disciplines (including physiotherapists, manual therapists, chiropractors and osteopaths) involved in the management of neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction. I cannot recommend this text highly enough: I personally found its earlier edition invaluable as a student during practical exams and clinical placements. For those seeking more extensive information on treatment options Petty's earlier text, Principles of Neuromusculoskeletal Treatment and Management- A guide for Therapists, serves as an excellent companion.
