Synopsis

This is a clinical manual providing succinct, evidence-based guidelines to the diagnosis and management of approximately 100 common paediatric problems, as well as additional material on examination of children, milestone checks, immunisations, etc. Each clinical problem will be covered in 1-3 pages of text, and the treatment recommendations will be supported by references to the best available guidelines, websites and other reference material. The book will help bridge the gap between primary and secondary care, so that it is clear when and where to manage the ill child - when to refer for hospital care, and when to manage within the primary care setting.

BMA Book Awards 2008 - Commended

This book has 30 contributors including the three authors, most from Nottingham which has a reputation for the development of community paediatrics. Integration presumably means not just between primary and secondary care but with the numerous players in child care. Thus clinical conditions only occupy two thirds of the nearly 500 pages which leaves space for discussions of development, nutrition and behaviour and more general topics like health promotion, social care and education.
