  This is an alphabetical list of commonly used drugs that emphasizes what nurses need to know and understand about drug presentation, action, usage and dosage. It notes recent changes and developments and has been updated with the addition of new drugs and the omission of others now less commonly used. There is a consistent use of headings for each drug given so that familiarity can be gained with the layout. This edition has been revised to include recent developments and changes in insulin availability, the treatment of peptic ulcer disease and AIDS research. A special note has been included in the text in order to appraise nurses of present concepts in reducing the spread of HIV infection and the present restricted use of Zidovudine, an effective anti-AIDS drug.
