Synopsis

This book aims to provide both general physicians and student neurologists, particularly those approaching the MRCP examination, with a practial reference guide to the diagnosis and management of patients with disorders of the nervous system. It aims to emphasize the importance of neurology in the practice of general or internal medicine. The first section of the book considers neurological symptoms and signs in relation to the anatomical organization of systems within the nervous system. The second section deals with symptom complexes relating to disease at differing levels in the nervous system, including coma, epilepsy and spinal cord syndromes, headache and pain syndromes and preipheral nerve and muscle disease. These first two sections pay particular attention to the interpretation of symptoms and signs, their causes and the symptomatic management of neurological disorders. The book then describes specific pathological processes, their clinical presentation and their management and prognosis. The book concludes with an examination of psychiatric disorders and their relationship to neurology.
