by Fiona Reynoldson (Author)
This foundation pupil's book for lower attainers is part of a series written by teachers and SHP examiners, that is designed to meet the requirements of the revised GCSE syllabuses. Each book in the series provides a source-based active learning approach, and some of the units are approached through asking key questions, or focusing on important issues or controversies. At the end of each unit in the pupil's book, there is an exam practice section that provides questions which cover the assessment objectives outlined in the GCSE syllabus. There are also summary boxes to aid revision. This book , which is a simplified version of the core pupil's book, adopts a chronological approach to the subject of medicine through time, developing the themes of anatomy and surgery, disease and its treatment, doctors and nurses, and public health and welfare. The accompanying teacher's resource pack contains markschemes for selected questions in the pupil's book, tips and advice on GCSE exams, and activities, to help lower achievers. There are also examiners' comments on student responses, to help pupils understand what is expected of them in the exam and to give them confidence when answering questions. The foundation pupil's book and teacher's resource pack can also be bought together in an evaluation pack.
