  This introduction to politics introduces the variety of political systems and the main political movements of the modern world, the issues which dominate political debate on the eve of the 21st century, and the ways in which these might be resolved. It focuses on the role of the democratic state in coping with the challenges of ecological crisis, information technology, nationalism, changing concepts of gender and the unequal distribution of wealth within and between states.
