Savoir-faire: Advanced French Course

Savoir-faire: Advanced French Course

by ElspethBroady (Author), Catrine Carpenter (Author)

Synopsis

Savoir-Faire is a wide-ranging course for post-A level students in higher education. It has been designed with first-year students in mind but, with its emphasis on transferable skills, it could be successfully adapted for use with second and final-year students. The course focuses advanced language learners on communication skills through the performance of stimulating activities, such as report writing, translating and interpreting, and making presentations. It develops the transferable skills that graduates will need if they are to use their knowledge of French professionally. Savoir-Faire comprises a course book, teachers book and three 60-minute audio cassettes. Each of the ten chapters deals with a distinct topic and set of skills, leading towards a project which draws on the skills introduced in that chapter. The interesting projects encourage the student to carry out research and think creatively. Each chapter is built around the audio recordings and written texts, all taken from authentic sources. The recordings are mostly discussions or interviews; some have been specially recorded, while others originate from the French radio station France Inter. Savoir-Fair means know-how or skill, and that is what this course has been designed to develop: know-how for approaching a range of language tasks, and skills for using French more effectively.
