Psyche & Social World: Developments in Group-analytic Theory (International Library of Group Psychotherapy & Group Process)

by Dennis Brown (Editor), Louis Zinkin (Editor)

Synopsis

Group analysis is now a major analytic approach with an increasing influence world-wide. Its theoretical basis was established by its initiator, S.H. Foulkes, and since his death his ideas have been used and developed by many colleagues and followers. The Psyche and the Social World presents a coherent review of his basic ideas in the light of their development. The editors and contributors are active in practising and teaching group analysis through the Institute of Group Analysis, London, and have contributed essays on a range of issues. While sharing a common outlook, they reveal the diversity of fields that can be studied from a group analytic viewpoint, and take a constructive approach to areas of difficulty and theoretical conflict. Contributors include both Freudian and Jungian psychoanalysts, those interested in systems theory and linguistics, family therapy, early childhood development, anthropology and transcultural issues. All share Foulkes' belief in the deeply social nature of our minds and personalities - hence the title, The Psyche and the Social World .
