by TomDouglas (Author)
A Handbook of Common Groupwork Problems is based on the most common problems the author has been consulted about during the last 20 years. The emphasis in the handbook is placed on devising strategies and monitoring their effects particularly for the large number of groupworkers who have no access to supervision or consultation. The strategies applied are outlined in five broad sections: the members of a group; the group as a system; the conditions which affect a group; the performance of leadership roles; and the supervision, training and development of groupworkers. There is also practical advice on how to use known resources and develop potential ones within the group. The author has worked with, taught, and acted as a consultant for groups and groupworkers in different areas of practice for 37 years. In this handbook he has distilled this wide-ranging experience into a systematic and essentially practical self-help programme for groupworkers. The book is intended to be of use as a reference source and as a training guide in the fields of psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis and in groupwork in general.
