Author Bio
Tony Mitchell is a senior lecturer in Writing and Cultural Studies at the University of Technology, Sydney. He was born in New Zealand, and received a PhD in Drama from Bristol University in 1976. He lived in Rome from 1978 to 1983 and was a correspondent on Italian theatre and cinema for Plays and Players and Sight and Sound, among other publications. His biography of the Italian practitioner Dario Fo: People's Court Jester, first appeared in 1984. His translations of plays by Dario Fo have been performed in Australia, New Zealand, Papua-New Guinea and South Africa. He is the author of a number of books, including Popular Music and Local Identity: Rock, Pop and Rap in Europe and Oceania (University of Leicester Press, 1996).
