Somewheres East of Suez

Somewheres East of Suez

by TristanJones (Author)

Synopsis

In this book, author Tristan Jones describes his voyage from Istanbul to Phuket, Thailand, which was begun in July 1985. The amputation of his leg two years earlier, far from putting an end to his sea-going life, made Jones even more determined to conquer his handicap and show others it could be done. His 11-month voyage realized his dream of bringing new hope to handicapped youngsters. On his voyage east from the Bosphorus he was accompanied by a crew of two able-bodied young men, German Thomas and Swedish Svante. The elements were often hostile; a Red Sea storm meant they had to lighten ship to save their lives, while in the Indian Ocean under the tropical sun, they almost drank their last drop of water. They also encountered trigger-happy locals and a clash with the local bureaucracy in Indian and Sri Lankan ports. The author provides a commentary on ships, the sea and men.
