The Twilight Time

by KarenCampbell (Author)

Synopsis

Anna Cameron is a new Sergeant in the Flexi Unit. On her first day in the new job she discovers she'll be working with her ex, Jamie, now married and with a child. In at the deep end emotionally after many years without him, she's also plunged headlong into the underworld of Glasgow's notorious Drag - the haunt of working girls, drug dealers and sad, seedy men. Someone is carving up the faces of local prostitutes, an old man has been brutally killed and racist violence is on the rise; Anna must deal with all this alongside tensions and backstabbing within her own team. Atmospheric, affecting and beautifully-written, "The Twilight Time" is a stunning debut from a remarkably talented new crime writer.

Media Reviews
'I loved it. Anna is a great, original character, the plot fairly whizzes along and Karen Campbell has a great way with images. It seems to me that in crime writing these days (perhaps always) it's really only the women writers who can do interesting characters AND interesting plot, but then we were multi-taskers ever. I look forward to the next one.' -- Kate Atkinson 20071114 'This is gritty as all hell, shot through with black humour and with enough pace and atmosphere to give the likes of Denise Mina a run for their money. All this and the chutzpah to create a seedy and unpleasant superintendent named Rankin!' -- Mark Billingham 20071207 'THE TWILIGHT TIME, powered by stiletto-sharp prose, is a pertinent expose of the contamination seeping into lives from prostitution and a drugs economy ruled by money-laundering thugs. But against this background, her story also vividly illustrates the physical and emotional damage caused to police officers by the vile reality of their work.' -- The Herald 20080224 'I couldn't stop reading. The slow-burn investigation and the car-crash relationships were absolutely compelling... I loved it.' -- Catriona Macpherson, author of BURY HER DEEP 20070711 'Karen Campbell has a wonderful ear for dialogue and I found her descriptions of Glasgow mesmerizing.' -- Vena Cork, author of THORN 20070724
