Synopsis

Carrot and stick, praise and blame, bouquets and brickbats - life for all of us is a mixture of these things. When it comes to advice on living, the words of Jesus are all important - and he does not let us down. This edition of "Words of Life" begins by concentrating on the 'applause' of Christ for individuals and groups he encountered, offering us insight into actions and attitudes that gain his approval. The second month's readings provide the other side of the coin - detailing Jesus' warnings about behaviour that disappoints, offends or angers our Heavenly Father. The writer then turns to the "Old Testament", tackling the much-neglected two-part book of "Chronicles" and discovering lessons for the twenty-first century among its history of events from two-and-a-half millennia ago. As guest contributor, Commissioner Robert Street provides helpful reflections for Advent.
