Synopsis

'Superficiality,' says author Richard Foster, 'is the curse of our age.' It is so easy to live on the surface of things. Shallow questions pepper our days: 'What's for lunch?' 'Where's my cell phone?' 'Who's in for dinner tonight?' As we grow older, the joys and sorrows of life take us deeper. What delight to discover that God also longs to take us beyond a surface relationship with himself to a deeper intimacy of knowing and being known. This edition of Words of Life explores some of these deeper places with a series on renewal and a look at some challenging questions from Scripture that confront us with their relevance today. It also contains a study of the prophet Haggai, Paul's letter to Titus, the early chapters of John's Gospel, Sunday readings from Isaiah, and the continuing story of Acts. Guest contributor Major Barbara Robinson has written a helpful series on Pentecost. 'Deep calls to deep,' wrote the psalmist (Psalm 42:7). May this Pentecost edition of Words of Life take us beyond the surface clamour of our lives to a new deep place in God.
