by Lucy Daniels (Author)
Dolphin Dreamer has arrived at the Sundarbans Delta at the mouth of the River Ganges! Here, the McGraths are staying with a local family, Ravi and Sunnu Kaushik and their three children. Jody and her brothers get on well with the Kaushik children, who have been brought up to respect and care for their environment, and eldest son, Shiv, takes Jody sightseeing. It is then that she spots the unusual and graceful Irrawaddy river dolphin, which she names Sandhi. Jody is thrilled, but then Sandhi disappears . . . At the same time, the Kaushiks are feuding with their neighbour, Mr Vikram over the increasing poaching of dolphins and turtles by traders for their apparent medicinal value. Ravi suspects Mr Vikram of being involved and when he hears of Sandhi's disappearance decides to uncover the truth, once and for all. Jody is anxious and sad that Sandhi could be another victim of this cruel practice, and she is determined to help the Kaushiks find him and get the culprits properly disciplined. Double-bluffing Mr Vikram, Ravi gets his neighbour to confess to his involvement, and agree to help Ravi and Jody catch out others involved . . . Sandhi returns, not a potential victim after all, but with a surprise for the Kaushiks and the McGraths - she's been away giving birth, in private!
