Synopsis

Osteoporosis is the cause of 200,000 fractures, effecting one in three women and about one in ten men over the age of 50, every year, yet the disease exhibits no symptoms or complaints until the first fracture. This book will offer advice on how to assess whether you have or may be likely to develop osteoporosis by looking at family history and life style as well as explaining possible links between the disease and certain medications or hormone imbalances. It will explain how to limit your risks by changes in lifestyle, how to communicate effectively with your doctor so you can discuss all treatment options and fully understand the disease. Dr Pal also provides contact details for support groups and specialist groups designed specifically for sufferers and their families to help them with specific concerns but also the day-to-day stresses of living with a disease which can be distressing but which does not have to be debilitating.
