Media Reviews
'...full of straightforward, no hold-barred, non-preachy advice on everything from how to treat girls to how to say no to drugs, and the book's written and presented in a cool, no-nonsense style that the Dawson's Creek generation identify with.' Ladies First Sept 2002 -- Ladies First 20020901 'Arms teenage boys with the correct information in order for them to feel confident in the choices they make' Parents' News 20020901 'It's good that someone's actually finally written about this type of thing. I've seen lots and lots for girls, but not for boys.' -- Lester, aged 12 20020901 'It may be the era of new man , but teenage boys still struggle to express their feelings. A survey of 1,000 13 and 14-year-olds found that 69 per cent would be unable to tell anyone if they thought they were gay, and 62 per cent felt the hardest thing about being male was the inability to express emotions. The research was commissioned by Hodder Children's Books to promote a new guide for teenage boys, 'XY' - a toolkit for life.' -- TES, August 2002 20020901 'While there are many books like this for teenage girls, who can access this information through magazines like 'Bliss' and 'More', self-help books for boys are rarer, so this is a welcome edition.' -- Writing Magazine, August 2002 20020901 'Answers all the questions boys are dying to ask. There have been many books like this for girls but this has everything that is cool for boys' Bookseller Buyer's Guide, non fiction highlights 20020901 'There are lots of personal comments that will appeal to adolescents.' '...[a] very useful handbook[s] for boys, but also good for parents and girls too.' -- Daily Record, Glasgow 20021023 'If it's hard to get grown men to talk about health and emotional issues, it's 20 times harder with teenage boys. So XY ... comes as a relief. The agony uncle and health writer has written a sensible book - discussing sex and sexuality, drink and drugs, dealing with friends, girlfriends and family - in a way that's both informative and appealing to teenagers.' -- Woman, August 2002 20021023 'I've learned loads from this book - an essential read for any teenage boy!' -- Max Kirkham, Leith Academy. Teen Titles, January 20021023 'XY is written in a frank, funny style, without being ingratiating. It covers important issues that every teenage boy will want to know about.' -- Surrey Publication and The Chronice, November 2002 20021023
