  This title opens with a chapter on the main historiographical interpretations of the war and its causes, then moves on to consider the progression from crisis to conflict, as events moved from war in 1642 to the execution of Charles I in 1649. In addition, there is an analysis of the parliamentary victory, the search for a settlement and the execution of the king. A final chapter discusses the significance of the wars in a British context and asks whether there was a British Revolution.
