The Morning Rides Behind Us

The Morning Rides Behind Us

by TariqGoddard (Author)

Synopsis

The heroes of T Squadron gather at Moat's wake to drink and argue and reminisce. Moat survived four years of tank battles but a year of peace was more than he could bear - having surveyed the hauntingly beautiful scenery of the New Forest one last time, he drove his motorbike into a tree. Since the second world war ended the men have struggled to readjust to civilian life. Most are now employed at the Fox Brandy Chocolate Plant and harbour resentments towards the owner, who was building his empire and sleeping with their women while they were risking their lives. Fuelled by alcohol and a fiercely nihilistic moral code they stage a last desperate act against the town. THE MORNING RIDES BEHIND US is a raw and passionate novel of friendship, love and memory.

Media Reviews
PRAISE FOR Tariq Goddard: 'Pacy, poised and undeniably exciting' -- Independent 'Mixes a blackly comic tone reminiscent of Quentin Tarantino with the kind of moral probing found in Graham Greene's thrillers ... A cracking good read.' -- Mail on Sunday 'Sheer excitement ... a pacy story that matches Elmore Leonard in its mix of hyperbole and humour ... characters (that) slip into the reader's heart' -- The Times 'Goddard has an eye for irony, and disaster ... driven by unravelling the neuroses of his characters as much as by uncovering the politics behind their predicament.' -- Observer
