Media Reviews
'In the Famous Five books, the explicit message is that boys lead and girls follow, but the implicit one is that the only character who matters is George - a girl. It is George, not Julian or Dick, who is the 'hero' of the series and the one everyone remembers.' -- Enid Blyton and the School Story by Rosemary Auchm
Author Bio
Enid Blyton died in 1968 but remains one of the best-known and best-loved writers of children's stories. She is consistently voted number one in children's favourite author polls. She has over 600 children's books to her credit, including the Famous Five series, the Secret Seven series, the Naughtiest Girl series (all Hodder) and the Malory Towers and St Clare series (both available from Hodder on audio). Sue Welford is a full-time writer who writes both under her own name (for OUP and Mammoth, amongst others) and under various pseudonymns as a contributor to series fiction, including our own bestselling Animal Ark. Her book, The Ghost in the Mirror, was shortlisted for the Whitbread Award, while her novel, The Night After Tomorrow, was the winner of the Angus Book Award. She has also written two non-fiction titles for Hodder: Heroic Horses and Devoted Dogs.
