Superphonics: Book 1

Superphonics: Book 1

by Ruth Miskin (Author), Kate Sheppard (Illustrator)

Synopsis

Letter-pictures (such as a dinosaur shaped like a letter d) help children make a connection between each letter and its sound. Parent and child follow three simple steps: hear the sound, read the letter, and write the letter. By the end of the book, children will be able to read all 26 letters, as well as the common initial sounds ch, th and sh. "Superphonics" offers swift progress because of its highly focused approach. With just 20 minutes' work a day, most children will complete Book 1 in about 4 weeks. It is illustrated in colour throughout by Kate Sheppard.

Media Reviews
A good scheme to recommend to parents who demand work in the holidays of for children who are struggling and would benefit from structured extra help. -- Society of Assistants Teaching in Preparatory Scho 20021001 It is the best. [...] Sound theory and Miskin's own successful practice underpin the approach. It is presented very accessibly, without being simplistic. -- TES, Sept 2000 The end result? My children are now up to the letter 'Y'. There is such a dramatic improvement in their recognition of both sounds and letter names that my only regret is that I didn't start using this book in the summer holidays as soon as I got it. It is very simple to follow. Even for a non-teacher. -- 'A grateful parent', Amazon.co.uk, March 2001
