Living Every Second

by TracyEdwards (Author)

Synopsis

Tracy Edwards is a true heroine of our time. Against unimaginable odds she captained the first all-woman crew to victory in the longest, toughest yacht race in the world. Her yacht Maiden won the Whitbread Round-the-World Cup in 1989. Here in her autobiography she takes us every gripping step of the way through that Whitbread victory and her subsequent attempt for the Jules Verne Trophy in 1998. Sadly, this time 40-foot seas and a broken mast ended her chances. Tracy was busy planning her fourth voyage when at the end of 1999, aged 37, she gave birth to her daughter Mackenna and decided never to risk her life sailing again. Now, starting on the new voyage of single parenthood - which she believes will be her greatest test of all - Tracy reflects on what made her take on some of the world's greatest challenges. With courage, adventure and humour, this is an enthralling story and a unique insight into the making of a heroine.

Media Reviews
'Tracy Edwards has always been one of my heroes. This book tells you why.' -- Andy McNab 'Tracy's exploits are awe-inspiring and inspirational. She's hard-headed and humorous at the same time - a great mix for a skipper.' -- John McCarthy 'Tracy sets down her savage determination on the page and creates both a gripping tale of thrills on the high seas and an inner journey through her own cussedness to personal and professional peace.' -- Maureen Lipman
Author Bio
Tracy Edwards was born in 1962 and was brought up in Berkshire and the Gower Peninsula in Wales. She did not seriously discover sailing until the age of 16 when she ran away from home. Based in Athens she spent five years delivering and working on charter yachts around the world. In 1989 she won the Whitbread Round-the-World Cup with the first ever all-woman crew. She returned to sailing to unsuccessfully take on the Jules Verne Trophy in 1998. Abandoning a further attempt on it, Tracy is now mother to Mackenna as well as running TEAM, a highly successful motivation company, from her home in Berkshire.
