Synopsis

It is 1970 when twenty-year-old Cathy falls in love with a young docker, Johnny Dean, and becomes pregnant. He offers to marry her, but unbeknownst to her his gambling has got out of hand and he owes favours to the wrong sort. To clear his debts he gets involved in a serious theft at the docks, which goes horribly wrong. Cathy is financially supported by 'the boys' and Johnny's family - but it isn't easy looking after a baby as a single mother and she gets lonely. Then she is befriended by a handsome young antiques dealer ...Will friendship be enough for either of them? And will she be able to prevent Johnny finding out?

Author Bio
Sally Worboyes was born and grew up in Stepney with four brothers and a sister, and she brings some of the raw history of her own family background to her East End sagas. She now lives in Norfolk with her husband, with whom she has three grown-up children. She has written several plays which have been broadcast on Anglia Television and Radio Four. She also adapted her own play and novel, WILD HOPS, as a musical, THE HOP-PICKERS.
