Practical Dictionary of Statistics for Psychology (Arnold Student Reference)

by TilWykes (Author), Brian Everitt (Author)

Synopsis

Psychologists need to know about statistics but they can easily get bogged down in unfamiliar jargon. This new dictionary is an invaluable reference for all undergraduate and postgraduate students of psychology. It provides definitions of the statistical terms most commonly encountered in psychological literature. It explains simply and clearly what the methods/topics are and how to apply them, and in many cases, some mathematical details and a numerical example follow a brief written account of a term. In addition, graphical material help make definitions clearer. This unique approach makes this dictionary an essential purchase for all students grappling with increasingly sophisticated statistical methods in their data analysis.

Media Reviews
Clearly written and the definitions given are easy to understand. The layout and design of the book makes it easy to use. A nice feature is the separation of the mathematical details of a definition from the verbal explanation of the term...also the mathematical detail sections usually include a concrete example. This is a superb feature. -- Statistical Methods in Medical Research This book is essential for all those who remember what a statistic means one minute but forget the next. -- Behaviour Research and Therapy The authors do try to cover most aspects of psychological statistics within the limited space that the book provides. -- Statistics in Medicine
