Media Reviews
New Light is a great Bible to use with children. Every book is written at a level they can understand without being boring or missing bits out. It's easy to follow, clearly set out and beautifully illustrated - the children I work with love it! -- Lisa Potts, GM An exciting new resource which can be used to introduce children to the beauty and grandeur of the Old and New Testament. The user-friendly layout and charming illustrations offer easy access to the text, providing a great new tool for classroom teaching or individual pupil research. -- Janet King B.Ed (Hons), DASE, Association of Chris Jenny Williams' artwork is clear and uplifting, illustrating biblical stories in a vibrantly colourful and kindly light - a stimulating yet gentle effect on the eye, likely to assist learning with interest and joy. -- David Fairhust B.Ed (Hons), DASE, Association of C Excellent presentation and clear readable print. The language is appropriate for young children; reasonable readers from 6 to 7 years old could read and copy with it. The bright and colourful illustrations are a good focus for catching and maintaining the children's attention. -- R. Braund, Head Teacher, St Mary's CE Primary Scho The New Light Bible is very easy to read ... I particularly enjoyed the introduction to each book, giving a brief synopsis and 'setting the scene'. This edition can only help to promote biblical study, both in the school and the wider context. I will recommend this edition to Religious Education teachers at every opportunity. -- Stephen Bowler, Subject Officer Edexcel Foundation
Author Bio
More than forty-two people were involved in the detailed process of producing the New Light Bible. These included educationalists, stylists, simplifiers and anglicisers. Together, they represent a wide spectrum of Christian denominations from around the world and the finest biblical scholarship available today, many of whom also worked on the NIV. One of their key aims was to ensure a balance between fidelity to the original biblical texts and to the accessibility of the receptor language (ie English).
