John G: The Authorized Biography

John G: The Authorized Biography

by SheridanMorley (Author)

Synopsis

John Gielgud's career, spanning almost 80 years, could be described as the history of the 20th century British theater. Seven years before his death, John Gielgud invited Sheridan Morley to become his only authorised biographer, handing over to him letters, diaries, and personal files. In addition to this huge archive, Morley has interviewed more than 200 of John's collaegues, friends, rivals, and critics to form a fully rounded and detailed portrait of the actor.

Media Reviews
'The books is masterly and moving. Gielgud would probably have loved it - and would doubtless have sent Morley a fan-letter' Humphrey Carpenter, The Sunday Times 2 'This highly personal account is underpinned by a transparently genuine love for its subject. Sheridan brings his terrific fluency as a writer and a vast stock of knowledge about 20th century theatre.. It is a good read about a truly great man' Robert Gore-Langton, Sunday Express 3 'Morley manages to keep it entertaining with his chatty style and keen eye for a joke. A perceptive tribute' Hugh Massingberd, Saturday Telegraph
