Media Reviews
...this book offers food for thought for the theory and practice of community work. By revisiting earlier writings on community work and demonstrating their relevance to the current political, social and economic climate, Popple provides a framework for further debate on how community work might evolve beyond the 1990s. - Health Matters The book is an essential read. It helps us think around partnerships of power with consumers, Freire's concept of critical and reflective discussion and the importance of linking practice debates with national agendas for social and economic change. - Professional Social Work ...a welcome addition to the literature...provides a clear and accessible guide. - Local Government Studies An excellent feature of this book is the way it combines description of practices and the consideration of Community Worker's theories and models with the study of major 'themes in the evolution of practice: recruitment, training, employment and funding'. - Journal of Social Policy ...a readily accessible summary of the limitations of British community work as it has developed up to the beginning of this decade. - Ageing and Society Popple is to be congratulated for embarking on this task of helping to sharpen community work's critical edge and there is much for the reader toengage or take issue with. - Youth and Policy This book will be a welcome addition to the current literature. The author tackles issues of theory and practice in an accessibleway and different models and perspectives are clearly set out for community work students - Marjorie Mayo, Ruskin College Oxford.
