  This text offers a conceptual model of management - as responsibility for the quality of subordinates' work - and identifies the constituent skills necessary for the effective management of others' performance. The author suggests a new and radical conception of managerial work and what is required for managers to develop the requisite skills. His view of management is based on management learning. He offers models of how people learn and how to help others learn.
