Thinking Through English (English, Language and Education)

Thinking Through English (English, Language and Education)

by PaddyCreber (Author)

Synopsis

Arguing the need for a central core of belief, to sustain English teachers in times of stress and rapid change, Paddy Creber begins with three propositions: good teaching is often deliberately unreasonable; good teaching has a strong element of interested experiment and good teachers often do not (quite) know what they are doing. He explores the implication of these propositions for the teaching of English. The focus throughout is upon the kinds of thinking that normally occur, that ought to occur within the English classroom. Whether the immediate topic be oral, written or dramatic activity, the aim remains constant - to help young people savour the excitement of thinking.
