  Skills Update - an ongoing series in the magazine Community Outlook, aims to update qualified nurses in skills they use in everyday practice as well as provide an overview of some more specialised skills that require personal tuition. Although some topics covered may appear quite simple, experienced nurses find them an excellent aid for reflecting on, and improving, their practice. They also provide an aide-memoire, and a useful tool for teaching and for discussion with students.
