by WendySavage (Foreword), Ann Dally (Author)
Dr Ann Dally was trained in the idealistic early years of the NHS. In 1979 she began seeing an increasing number of long-term heroin addicts who had, until recently, been provided with legal prescriptions by the NHS. Arbitrary policy changes had forced them either on to the black market or to seek a sympathetic private doctor. Dr Dally's treatment of them and her outspoken criticism of official politics won her powerful enemies, and on three separate occasions she was "tried" by the General Medical Council.
