Author Bio
Walter Macken is a hero of Irish literature. He wrote for radio, television and the stage as well as directing plays. He is best known for his adult trilogy Seek the Fair Land, Rain on the Wind and The Silent People which spans generations of Irish history from the arrival of Cromwell to the Famine. However he found these so difficult to write that he began work on two children's books (both published by Macmillan Children's Books), Flight of the Doves and Island of the Great Yellow Ox as a form of relaxation. He died in the 1980s in his beloved Oughterard, a quiet village in the west of Ireland.
