The Picador Book of African Stories

The Picador Book of African Stories

by StephenGray (Editor)

Synopsis

The Picador Book of African Stories contains forty short stories from across the wide African continent, hardly any of which have been collected before. These are by the post-1980 generation of writers or were written in the last two decades. Some are firm favourites, but most are appearing in print for the first time. Over half the contents have been freshly translated into English (from Arabic, French and Portuguese) in specially commissioned new versions. Each writer appears with biographical notes.

In the introduction to the collection the claim that this huge, lively continent has indeed become the home of new and inventive ways of short-story writing is presented.

Media Reviews
'Pioneering... It is the ways in which these forty stories fold into a complex whole which make the volume deeply satisfying... At a time when profound pessimism characterizes much discussion of Africa. The Picador Book of African Stories has particular value' Times Literary Supplement
