Inventing Herself

Inventing Herself

by ElaineShowalter (Author)

Synopsis

This volume is an account of women, from the 18th century through to the 21st century, who live life on a grand scale. Elane Showalter uncovers the lives of feminist individuals, focusing on figures ranging from Mary Wollenstonecraft to Camille Paglia, and her sources as diverse as "A Vindication of the Rights of Women" and "Scream 2". She looks at the fragmenting feminism of the 1990s and addresses the dreams and aspirations of women who do not see themselves as part of the feminist movement. In conclusion she shows that the intellectual standard for modern feminists has been compromised by the spectre of celebrity.
