Media Reviews
Fluently and passionately wrought. Fans of Charles de Lint, and others who relish the music/folklore combination, should be delighted with this debut fantasy. -- Kirkus Reviews By turns tender and tormented, this haunting, lyric Celtic rhapsody on the ancient theme of Selkies makes a bewitching debut novel. Definitely a writer to watch, Brandon has a vivid, original voice, full of poignant longing and haunting echoes. -- Publishers Weekly Paul Brandon is one of my favorite new writers. His writing is filled with a deep sense of place and character, and subtle insights into why people do the things that they do. When he writes of the coast, a storm, a music session, or an intimate conversation, you can smell the salt, feel the rain, hear the fiddles, and be aware of every nuance of body movement and dialogue. --Charles de Lint
Author Bio
Paul Brandon was born in the middle of a hop field in darkest Kent, England. The first book he remembers being read to him was The Hobbit, closely followed by The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. He went on to work in film and television production. The majority of his work was within commercials, but he also worked on documentaries, a few Barbara Walters Specials, pop music videos and the occasional movie. He met his future wife Julie in an Irish pub in London, and six months later, he decided to pack up and move to Brisbane, Australia to be with her. After a couple of years in Australia, he took a month or so to write Swim the Moon, which was a little idea that came to him while listening to a Celtic fiddle tune during tea on a Sunday evening. When he's not writing, Brandon can be found playing guitar for Sunas, a Celtic band that can be caught on most weekends playing in some pub or another around the Brisbane area, where Paul and Julie reside.
