A state of the art techno thriller by an author who ranks alongside Clancy and Dale Brown as a master of the genre. Russia is in chaos, it's economy in ruins. Rich oil deposits in Siberia seem to be the prize available to the most daring predator. When a right wing Japanese Government mounts an invasion, the USA comes to Russia's defence. Air Force Colonel Bob Cassidy finds himself leading a squadron of F22 fighters to opose the Japanese attackers, led by his old Air Force Academy friend Jiro Kimure. Meanwhile, Russian naval captain Pavel Saratov pilots his antiquated submarine into hostile waters on a highly dangerous mission. Whether aboard a Russian submarine or in a state of the art fighter cockpit, Coonts brings his story vividly to life, evoking all the exhaustion, fear and courage of his characters as they struggle desperately to avert a nuclear catastrophe. Filled with up to the minute authentic military detail, FORTUNES OF WAR is A RED STORM RISING for the 1990's.
