by Howard Rice (Photographer), Toby Buckland (Author)

Synopsis

A collection of creative ideas to give your garden a weekend workout. Divided by season, each project is achievable in a weekend, some in just a few hours. Some create an instant effect, others may take several months for the results to appear. They range from the practical, like making garden seats, water features and garden paths, to more arty projects such as plant globes to hang from trees, mosaics and creating stained glass effects in trellis. Each project has a shopping list setting out exactly what you need to carry out the transformation. Every step is explained and photographed.

Media Reviews
With so little time available to gardeners these days, any book that offers quick results is worth looking twice at. Especially this one with its attractively presented ideas for instant or weekend projects to enlighten an overlooked spot in the garden. Arranged according to season, Toby Buckland gives 50 'recipes' to carry out either during the hot sunny summer months or to do inside during the cold months of winter. From more complicated auricula theatres and tree seats to projects children can carry out such as the autumn leaf mobiles to horticultural challenges such as sempervivum planets and sedum pictures, there are ideas for every scale of gardening. From the quirky berry ice-cubes and 'green man' to the practical footpaths and potager layouts, from monster footprints and fossil sculptures to Devon banks and water features, there is something to suit every gardener and every garden, be they large or small. And the beauty of all these ideas is that they take very little time to achieve. Whilst some such as the copper wall fountain may take a weekend the simple effect of the winter twiggery can be achieved in half an hour and instantly give the garden a lift and talking point. From the unusual to the practical, from horticultural to woodwork, there are projects for people of all ages and abilities. All materials are listed and the instructions are easy to follow and clearly illustrated with Howard Rice's detailed photographs. A must for all those wanting to add an artistic bent to their horticultural skills.
