The Royle Family is written by Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash. Caroline Aherne is perhaps best known for her alter ego Mrs Merton. Wanting to write a sitcom about real people, she got together with Craig Cash to create this ground-breaking show. In addition to writing the scripts, they play Denise and Dave, respectively.
