Synopsis

Fat Club has been created for the ITVI series. The ten courageous members of Fat Club put themselves at the mercy of a US Marine Instructor, a GP, a psychologist and a nutritionist. They must live by the rules of Fat Club in their own homes following exercise regimes and they must eat healthily. And one weekend a month their progress is checked at Fat Club. There are exercise classes and timed runs to assess fitness levels. There are sessions with the psychologist. They eat when they are told to, and at the beginning of each Club, there is a weigh-in at which each member's progress is publicly declared to the group. This mesmerizing book follows the progress of each individual member of Fat Club. There's Jacqueline, who's trying to lose enough weight to have a baby. Stuart and Kelly are both students and are looking to change their lifestyles to keep their weight under control; Tony Curly wants to lose weight before meeting his long lost father for the first time, and Simon needs to lose weight to keep up with his two young children. Tracy wants to be able to swim and get her confidence back. Through the Fat Club process we become more involved in each individual's personal battle. But we also ask - how can you do this too? There's information on how to shop effectively looking for nutritional value, not just calorie control. There's medical advice on starting an exercise programme and a full exploration of the health issues of weight, as well as a look at the importance of mental attitude. The exercise regime focuses on maximum calorie burning techniques and there are even the recipes from the Fat Club kitchen.
