The House of Memories

by Monica Mc Inerney (Author)

Synopsis

Following a tragic accident, Ella O'Hanlon flees to the other side of the world in an attempt to escape her grief, leaving behind the two people she blames for her loss: Aidan, the love of her life, and Jess, her spoilt half-sister. In London Ella is taken in by her beloved uncle Lucas, whose extraordinary house holds many wonderful memories for her. Along with other members of the very colourful Fox family, Lucas helps Ella to see that she is not the only one still hurting, and that forgiveness can be the greatest healer in a family and in a marriage. For anyone who has ever loved and lost, this is an exquisitely moving and life-affirming novel by the internationally bestselling author of Lola's Secret.

Media Reviews
'McInerney set out to write about a 21st century blended family and this she does well' Daily Express 'Exquisitely written' Ulster Tatler 'Very moving ... There is an endearing warmth to the narrative and characters, and the underlining themes of family and forgiveness are uplifting and hopeful' Australian Bookseller & Publisher 'McInerney has a knack for bringing characters to life; imbuing them with unique voices, perfectly tuned, making them authentically flawed and carving out their losses and gains with a realism that resonates deeply. Full of heart and exquisitely written pain, this is one of those novels that will stay with the reader for a long time. Some stories just carry you along with them and make you truly care about the fate of the characters, long after you leave the last page, and The House of Memories is one of those books' Bord Gais Bookclub, Ireland 'A touching and life-affirming tale of family bonds, tragic loss, forgiveness and the power of love' Adelaide Advertiser 'A wonderful novel with compelling emotional depth ... there is as much heart and warmth in The House of Memories as there is angst and drama ... touches of delightful humour too' Book'd Out '... filled with humour and sadness in equal measure, The House of Memories is an emotional see-saw that had even this battle-hardened reader reaching for a tissue' West Australian 'A wonderfully emotional and tense novel all about what happens when you try to bury grief ... McInerney is an expert in portraying the nuances and complications of family life. Her characters never take the easy way out and she loves exploring ethical dilemmas. This is a novel that asks all the most painful questions ... Mesmerising' Red Magazine, UK 'An exceptionally absorbing story, told in most engaging prose. Heartbreaking, yet lovely' Image Magazine, Ireland
