The Boy Who Went Away

The Boy Who Went Away

by EliGottlieb (Author)

Synopsis

For Denny Graubart, the chaotic summer of 1967, when the screams of napalm bombs drowned the cheers of the All-Star game, brings the painful realisation that childhood has passed. Engaging in his favourite domestic spying game, Denny unwittingly discovers the desperate measures his mother will take to save his autistic brother Fad in the diagnostic Dark Ages of the 1960s. At the heart of this dark and funny first novel is not only the story of Denny's reluctant entrance to adolescence, but also that of his relationship with Fad, whose departure from 44 Drainer Drive at the end of the summer will forever alter both their lives.
