EC Law: Text, Cases and Materials

EC Law: Text, Cases and Materials

by Grainne De Burca (Author), P.P. Craig (Author)

Synopsis

The study of EC law is clearly of central and growing importance within the UK and beyond. This is a comprehensive and wide-ranging book, covering both institutional and substantive Community law, which combines the virtues of a casebook with those of a traditional text. The case law of the ECJ is placed within a conceptual context provided by the authors' detailed text, and materials drawn from diverse sources are integrated into the discussion so as to enrich the analysis. Developments in legal doctrine are related to broader political and institutional changes within the Community as a whole. The flexible structure of the book makes it suitable for use in a variety of EC courses, whether the emphasis is on the institutional law of the Community, or on the substantive aspects thereof. It is designed to be used as the primary textbook for the study of EC law, but can also be used as a supplement to an existing text. The full range of material is utilised, including case law, treaty provisions, and subsequent legislation. Secondary literature of a legal, political, economic and social scientific nature is woven into a detailed textual narrative provided by the authors. This book is intended for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year undergraduate law students taking courses in EC Law, either integrated courses dealing with the entire subject or modular courses dealing only with substantive or institutional law.
