Media Reviews
This collection contains a wide-ranging and vibrant set of beautifully crafted and classy arrangements of songs from the Americas. There are arrangements of traditional songs, for example a boisterous version of Buffalo Gals, and a particularly gorgeous setting of a Mexican folksong, Senora Santa Ana, with its scrumptious, harmonically-unsettled opening piano part. There are also some stunning original compositions . . This superb set is a much-needed addition to the SAB repertoire. * Paul Ayres, Sheet Music Review Sept 06 *
This second collection of songs for youth choirs follows in the path successfully blazed by the first volume in the series. The arrangements are largely scored for SAB to keep them within the scope of choirs with developing young men's voices. That said, the arrangements are imaginative and in no way suggest that compromises have had to be made to fulfil the SAB criterion. . . you have a collection to be enjoyed not just by the young but by the young at heart. This is thoroughly reocmmended. * Christopher Field, Music Teacher July 2007 *
Author Bio
Bob Chilcott has been involved with choral music all his life, first as a Chorister and then a Choral Scholar at King's College, Cambridge. Later, he sang and composed music for 12 years with the King's Singers. His experiences with that group, his passionate commitment to young and amateur choirs, and his profound belief that music can unite people, have inspired him both to compose full-time and, through proactive workshopping, to promote choral music worldwide. Peter Hunt is the inspiration behind OUP's highly successful Voiceworks series, author of four of its titles, and series editor. He is a highly skilled teacher with extensive experience as a choral animateur, clinician, workshop leader, conductor, and arranger. He regularly conducts children's choirs and organises large-scale singing events with young people. The wealth of eclectic material in the Voiceworks series, and the useful teaching notes have made the series a significant contributor to the recent revival of singing and the development of confident singing leaders in the UK. Peter has delivered workshops and Inset training all over the UK, Ireland, Australia, and the USA, and has a reputation for lively, stimulating and highly informative sessions born of real practical experience in the classroom. Peter is Deputy Head of Berkshire Maestros - the young musicians' trust - the Hub which is delivering music education for young people across the county of Berkshire, UK.
