Mold and the Poison Plot

Mold and the Poison Plot

by Gregory (Author)

Synopsis

He's got a big heart . . . and a nose to match! Mold's a bit of a freak. His nose is as big as his body is puny and his mother abandoned him in a bin when he was a mere baby. Who else but the old healer, Aggy, would have taken him in and raised him as her own? But when Aggy is accused of poisoning the King, Mold sets out to clear her name. In a thrilling race against time to save Aggy from the hangman's noose, Mold faces hideous, deadly monsters like the Yurg and the Purple Narlo Frog. He finds true friendship in the most unusual - and smelly - of places and must pit his wits and his clever nose against the evil witch Hexaba. This is an exciting fantasy story with an array of wonderful characters, including the inimitable Mold, told in a fresh and distinctive voice by a promising new writer.

The ideas are inspired, the story is gripping and the characters are unique and totally believable * The Bookbag *
The book is well paced, with lots of twists and turns and a showdown at the end which is so epic and tense... It's witty and well-thought out and the use of dialect in the writing would make for an excellent teaching point * The Teaching Booth *
This is a fantasy story that will appeal to those who don't normally enjoy fantasy * Parents in Touch *
He is a wonderful creation: a loveable and funny character who takes you with him every step of the way on his big adventure * Books for Keeps *
Lorraine Gregory creates a fully fleshed-out fantasy world, full of wondrous creatures and horrible humans. The humour is earthy and the action bloody (gruesomely so, at points), and it all combines perfectly in this great read * BookTrust *
A great middle grade adventure novel with plenty of action, a great sprinkling or humour and a host of eclectic characters * My Book Corner *
Full of ripe smells and perilous thrills, this is an engaging debut * The Guardian *
