This handbook provides a summary of the major childhood infections and gives practical advice on current immunization and treatment. It is aimed particularly at the general practitioners, clinical medical officaers and nurses who see these infections and who carry out childhood immunizations. It may also be appropriate reading for paediatricians and candidates sitting the DCH and DCCH. Its size should make it useful for the mobile doctor or nurse who needs a quick reference book to provide answers to the questions that crop up in their everyday work. The stimulus for this book was concern about the continuing morbidity of childhood infectious disease and the unsatisfactory uptake of immunization in the UK. The book has been compiled by the British Paediatric Association's Standing Committee on Immunization and Vaccination. This new edition has been revised and updated. The treatment of meningitis and of bone and joint infections have been added to the clinical problems, listeriosis and cryptosporidia have been added to the disease covered. There are new sections on the handling of vaccines and on parental counselling. There is also a question-and-answer section on practical immunization.
