Health Care for Asians (Oxford General Practice)

Health Care for Asians (Oxford General Practice)

by Brian R .and Donaldson Mc Avoy (Author), Brian R . Mc Avoy (Editor), LiamJ.Donaldson (Editor)

Synopsis

Over four per cent of the UK population is descended from ethnic minority backgrounds, the majority being Asian. Most general practitioners, especially in urban areas, will have Asian patients on their lists, and will have received no teaching on ethnic minority health during their undergraduate or postgraduate careers. This book has been written to provide information for such doctors, and thereby enable them to enhance the care they provide through understanding more fully the needs of these patients. The 18 authors, both Asian and non-Asian, include general practitioners, hospital specialists, anthropologists, epidemiologists, researchers and social scientists. The three main sections deal with religious and cultural, organizational and clinical aspects of care, together providing the first comprehensive textbook on Asian health care. Although aimed primarily at the general practitioner, this up-to-date and practical review of Asian health care should also be of interest to hospital doctors, community physicians, medical students and other health professionals working with Asian patients.
