Thomas Kyd (1558-1594) is associated with a leading theatrical company, the Queen's Men. In 1593 both Kyd and Marlowe were arrested, and Kyd was imprisoned and tortured - his career never recovered. Emma Smith is Fellow of All Souls College, Oxfordand is currently working on a history of Shakespeare's Henry V.
