Author Bio
Leslie Poles Hartley was born in Cambridgeshire in 1895 and went to Harrow and Oxford. He served in the First World War and for thirty years was a book reviewer for various periodicals. He published the first volume of a trilogy,The Shrimp and the Anemone, in 1944. It was followed by The Sixth Heaven and the best known of the three, Eustace and Hilda. His other novels include The Boat, THE GO-BETWEEN, and The Hireling. LP Hartley was awarded the CBE in 1956 and died in 1972.
