This memoir consists of incidents that Singer remembers from his childhood in Warsaw, where his father was a rabbi in a poor quarter of the city. Through their rooms at 10 Krochmaina Street passed a variety of types who came to see the elder Singer for ruling on points of Jewish law and for personal advice and comfort. It shows a situation that could only have existed in the years before the deluge of the World War I. Singer has written many novels including The Family Moscat , Satan in Goray and A Friend of Kafka .
